 Abstract: Japanese ethnological and folkloric research is based on the study of the origins of Japanese ethnicity and Japanese culture, developing towards global ethnological studies. Such research is prominently reflected in the establishment and development of the National Museum of Ethnology of Japan. The National Museum of Ethnology is a research institution that combines the functions of a museum, graduate education, and university collaboration, renowned as a “world-class research institute in the fields of ethnology, cultural anthropology, and related fields”. Among the global ethnological materials collected and organized by the National Museum of Ethnology of Japan, materials related to Chinese ethnic culture play a crucial role as a essential foundation for the expansion of Japanese ethnological study towards West Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, North Asia, Europe, and Africa.
